Studio Fox Architects, based in Auckland, is dedicated to the idea that landscape design can significantly enhance the experience of architecture and the built environment. The client's request was for an all-weather outdoor pavilion, seating, and entertainment area to revive their exhausted rear yard. The existing landscape was overgrown and in need of renovation, with its Japonesque features influencing a contemporary Asian-inspired tropical planting. The lush green backdrop, visible from within the home, draws occupants into the landscape, creating an atmosphere of cool relaxation, perfect for unwinding after a long day in the office. The elevated pavilion, featuring an operable louvre roof and automated screen blinds, adjusts to changing weather conditions, time of day, and prevailing winds, offering views of the house and Auckland's Sky Tower in the distance.
